Discussion:
Worst character ever?

Stealing Anim8r's theme.....

Jeffster are the most unlikeable characters of any show or movie, that I
have ever seen. EVER.

Hated Fred and Angelus on Angel, but liked Ilyria. Hated Dawn the brat, and
whiny Tara on Buffy, too.

Sylar from Heroes.

Kate from Lost.

Strife and the other god that same guy played on Hercules.

Joxer on Xena.

Bester on B5 (sorry Walter - love you - but the character was a cartoon
villain) Also hated Sinclair and his little girlfriend, Catherine, too.
Captain Lochley/Tracy Scoggins was beyond irritating.

Wesley Crusher (though Wil Wheaton rawks) B'Lanna (sp?) on Voyager (though
I like Roxanne Dawson)

Brainiac on Smallville (love Marsters, though)

Rude Dr. Smith on Seaquest. Chickenshit Dr. Smith on Lost In Space.

Scrappy-Doo. :-)

...that's all I can think of at the moment.

Your thoughts?

Yeah, last week with their comments to sister ... that was pretty bad.

Fred rocked! Never liked Tara. And Dawn's arc should have ended with
Glory killing her.

Come on. *everybody* on Voyager.

Wow. Brainy isn't even on my radar for hateable characters on
Smallville. Let's start with Tess ...

Much as I wish Don had shot Smith out the airlock ... there really

Fred was much better after a while, but I still didn't like her twitchy
insanity. And don't get me started on the Fred/Gunn fiasco. Cordy and Gunn
I could believe; Fred should have been with Wesley all along.

Wow. Brainy isn't even on my radar for hateable characters on
Smallville. Let's start with Tess ...
It may be my association of him with Buffy. He just looked like Spike with
dark hair, using a fake American accent (I was shocked to find out he was
American!) That probably isn't his fault - it's mine.

I could certainly have lived without him - I wish they'd either kept him
sinister, as he was in the beginning, or killed him off, and let the show be
the halfway decent sci-fi it was until Smith/Robot/Will took over.

But seriously, there really didn't seem to be a reason for that character,
other than to screw the main male characters. Like that annoying-ass

Hey, now. :)

I'll admit that I can sleaze it up with the best of 'em when the
occasion calls for it, but that's not what I'm doing here. I'm thinking
of the time the two of them shared a phone in a tight space (his home?
her home?) and were talking to their "Hee haw" friend in New York about
funding, or something. In any case, their interest eventually drifted
away from the phone conversation going on and towards each other. I'm
just saying that ol' "Hee Haw" would have been tuned out in about ten
seconds if I'd been George.

It was at her house, from which she had just kicked George out. George,
though I love him, really was a bit of a loser, though. LOL He could have
been a zillionaire like Sam Wainright, (I watch that movie every single
Christmas season) could have gone to college, or something, but that lame
"building and loan" dragged him down.

He was too selfless and responsible for his own good, but it was out of
concern for others, not out of a lack of self-worth. I certainly don't
equate that with being a loser.

But where would he go from there? Everyone was *lending* him money, but
Potter seemed to still be in business. I guess the implication is that the
whole town now supported George's Building And Loan, and turned their backs
on Potter, but really all George will ever be, is a small-town (ergo small
time) banker. His father barely kept the thing afloat, for the same reason
George struggles - he's so nice to the debtors, that he doesn't make any
money.

You know, of course, that I love all of the characters in the movie (even
Potter - great performance by Barrymore) but looking at the choices George
made, they're noble, sure, but self-defeating financially.

I can open jars just fine, BTW - all you have to do is put a butter knife

The point is not to destroy the lid, which is what you've now done.

There's no great secret to it: You have to get a grip. Wipe off all
condensation and make sure your hands are clean. Most people use their
dominant hand on the lid; I use it on the bottle. Pickle jars are easiest
of all, but they perfectly fit my hands. I have problems with the small
jars and smooth lids. The solution is to have a bit of rubber to grip
it with. I used to have a rubber grip that worked great till it utterly
disintegrated. Wrapping a few rubber bands around those small lids
should provide adequate grip.

It's not a matter of strength; it's a matter of grip. Additional strength
can overcome lack of a good grip but there's just no reason why women
cannot open jars by gripping correctly.

Most of the time, I have no trouble with just turning it. And if you know
how to properly release the air, you don't *ruin* it. You find an area
under the lid that already has a gap, slide the knife under, keeping it
vertical, and slightly pull toward yourself. I haven't ruined a single lid
that way. Ever.

It's the same idea as running the lid (and only the lid) under a
stream of hot water. Get enough expansion in the lid and the lid will
turn easily as a bit of air slips in.

Jeffster are the most unlikeable characters of any show or movie, that I
have ever seen.  EVER.
Hated Fred and Angelus on Angel, but liked Ilyria.  Hated Dawn the brat, and
whiny Tara on Buffy, too.
Sylar from Heroes.
Kate from Lost.
Strife and the other god that same guy played on Hercules.
Joxer on Xena.
Bester on B5 (sorry Walter - love you - but the character was a cartoon
villain)  Also hated Sinclair and his little girlfriend, Catherine, too.
Captain Lochley/Tracy Scoggins was beyond irritating.
Wesley Crusher (though Wil Wheaton rawks)  B'Lanna (sp?) on Voyager (though
I like Roxanne Dawson)
Brainiac on Smallville (love Marsters, though)
Rude Dr. Smith on Seaquest.  Chickenshit Dr. Smith on Lost In Space.
Scrappy-Doo. :-)
...that's all I can think of at the moment.
Your thoughts?
Byron and Lochley on "Babylon 5"

Dr. Zachary Smith on "Lost in Space"

Capt. Janeway and Engr. Torres on "Voyager"

As someone else noted, the entire cast of "Voyager", and the script

good measure. Exceptions include that psycho killer guy they kept
locked up for a few episodes and occasionally the EMH.

I hated the Doctor at the beginning of the show - he was *such* an asshole.

I'm saying that she rose to the level of being barely acceptable in
the TV episodes and TV movies that I listed above. Regarding Crusade,
I didn't much like it when I first watched it on TNT in 1999, but on
*many* subsequent viewings, I grew to like the characters (except for
Lochley and Chambers) *a lot* . Like I said, Lochley was barely
acceptable, but Chambers (Holden) was awful.

Byron needed to suffer a fatal hair care accident from the first scene
in which he appeared.
Agreed!
hehehe - he really was very annoying, with his overdeveloped
"sensitivity".

Dr. Zachary Smith on "Lost in Space"
I have fond childhood memories of his performance. I considered him a
buffoon even then, but an entertaining one. I have not rewatched
since I was a preteen.
Somebody should have KILLED him. GAH!!! I couldn't stand that guy
(especially on the TV series)!
*high-five* Remember the scene where Don and John wanted to space his ass,
but Maureen talked them out of it? "He's a human being!" No he's not.
He's a dangerous jerk.
He was a traitorous, self-serving, sniveling worm.
And nearly got them killed on numerous occasions. He did do completely
selfless things once in a *great* while, but most of the time, he was not
only useless with, but also the *cause* of their problems.

Capt. Janeway and Engr. Torres on "Voyager"
As someone else noted, the entire cast of "Voyager", and the script
writers should be given a character face and then killed off just for
good measure. Exceptions include that psycho killer guy they kept
locked up for a few episodes and occasionally the EMH.
But, but, but NOT Seven of DD. <motorboat> :-D
*rolling eyes* Though I did like Seven - definitely not for the reasons
*you* did. :-P
The only times I couldn't stand 7 of 9 were in scenes she had with
Janeway where Janeway used the word "humanity."
LOL Seven was interesting to me, actually. Though when I saw the ep where
her self-centered parents took her into unknown freaking space and got her
assimilated, I wanted to burn those idiots at the stake. *You want to put
yourself in danger for the sake of adventure, fine, but leave the damned kid

Dawn and Tara on BtVS
I liked Tara a lot after she broke up with Willow and moved out and
solidified her spine. Before that, I agree with you.
I never liked Tara.
Me neither - she just got on my nerves with her wishy-washiness, and
subservience to Willow.
Her wishy-washiness made me sick.
What was so frustrating, was that she sometimes knew immediately what to do,
but waffled on it! Like the Faith/Buffy switch - she should have told
Willow the second Willow came back, what was going on - not wait until Faith
could bang Riley, among other things. SHEESH.

In the finale, were you thinking what my daughter and I were, with Dawn
looking into that chasm?

Just give her a leeeetle shove....

Byron and Lochley on "Babylon 5"
Byron sooooo much more than Lochley, IMO.   Lochley was acceptable.
Note that I said Lochley on "Babylon 5," not Lochley on "Crusade."
Actually, I only found Lochley (Scoggins) to be acceptable on B5's Day
of the Dead, The River of Souls, A Call to Arms,  and in Crusade.
I could barely watch Crusade on the whole, so she didn't really help it,
IMO.
HEY - hatin' on the sistah! :-)
I couldn't stand her boring, connect-the-dots-slowly, acting.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. You could see the gears turning slowly in her
head. Wooden & melodramatic. Just plain bad.

Stealing Anim8r's theme.....
Jeffster are the most unlikeable characters of any show or movie, that I
have ever seen. EVER.
Hated Fred and Angelus on Angel, but liked Ilyria. Hated Dawn the brat, and
whiny Tara on Buffy, too.
Sylar from Heroes.
Kate from Lost.
Strife and the other god that same guy played on Hercules.
Joxer on Xena.
Bester on B5 (sorry Walter - love you - but the character was a cartoon
villain) Also hated Sinclair and his little girlfriend, Catherine, too.
Captain Lochley/Tracy Scoggins was beyond irritating.
Wesley Crusher (though Wil Wheaton rawks) B'Lanna (sp?) on Voyager (though
I like Roxanne Dawson)
Brainiac on Smallville (love Marsters, though)
Rude Dr. Smith on Seaquest. Chickenshit Dr. Smith on Lost In Space.
Scrappy-Doo. :-)
...that's all I can think of at the moment.
Your thoughts?
Byron and Lochley on "Babylon 5"
Byron was lame, but Lochley really wasn't too bad - it was Scoggins that
made the character annoying.
Dr. Zachary Smith on "Lost in Space"
You *know* I'm with ya on that!
Capt. Janeway and Engr. Torres on "Voyager"
HEY! I like Kathryn!
Dawn and Tara on BtVS
No question!
Conner on "Angel"
I liked Connor, actually, just hated Holtz. GAWD, he was a windbag.

Yes, I really have to wonder what happened with JMS and Byron. It's
the one truly sour note in an otherwise very good story. The real
problem with Lochley was that she was a drop in replacement for
Ivanova and that is always a tough sell.

As much as I love Claudia (I always chat with her at cons) Ivanova really
wasn't a complicated character. If they'd stuck with a similar persona,
instead of a Clark-loving skank, I think Scoggins could have handled it.

I guess I had a great deal of sympathy for him. He really was innocent, and
was only doing what people he thought cared for him told him to do. I also
like how he fights. :-) He was used by every single person he trusted. Too
bad he didn't trust Angel; he would have been treated right.

he trusted, starting with that asshole, Holtz. I think I have an aversion
to Keith Szarabajka in general. Hated him in B5 too. He didn't make me
roll my eyes in "Dark Knight" but that was because he did a
blink-and-you-miss-him scene.

Conner on "Angel"
I liked Connor, actually, just hated Holtz.  GAWD, he was a windbag.
Conner was only OK in the series finale.  Everwhere else, especially
with Cordy, he was horrid.

Keith was *supposed* to be unlikeable in B5. That was the character.

No, he was supposed to be charming, even *before* he got that power,
according to Talia.

I think Holtz, despite being Angel's enemy, was supposed to be sympathetic
too, but I just wanted him to STFU.

Stealing Anim8r's theme.....
Sylar from Heroes.
Your "Heroes" list is way too short. The show utterly lacked decent
lead characters. The show quickly ruined Hiro, and he was the most
appealing of the lot. He totally missed the "with great responsibilities"
part of being a superhero. The only thing good about Ali Larter was that
we never got to see her play the third sister.

Oh, wasn't that AWFUL?! I hate cheap out-of-nowhere twin crap, but that was
excruciating. Actually I did like her son - that kid is a very talented
young actor. I liked Angela, Hiro, and his dad, (Sulu) but got really
tired of Claire and HRG.

I agree; he was terrific. The father was awful, too, especially as the
scripts made him a bad guy at first, then changed him into a good guy
without reason.

Angela was somewhat interesting. Adrian Pasdar was totally wasted, like
all the other good actors who found their way onto the show. Peter was
boring. Suresh was boring. Parkman was boring and really stupid.

They turned a promising character, HRG, into one who had an insipid
relationship with his daughter. The writers couldn't figure out how
to write for a character whose moral values were fluid, so they chose
to ruin him.

And Claire? There was a real sickness about the way that character was
written. How can we break her in all new and extraordinarily painful ways?
When she wasn't broken, she was an empty-headed bimbo.

I liked The Haitian, but he had no lines and was used rarely.

I hated his character in "Buffy" - but then that was the worst season of the
series; yes, worse than S6.

They definitely didn't deserve Pasdar - or for that matter, Quinto. Matt
annoyed the hell outta me from day 1. I think he was supposed to be the
most ordinary of the characters, but he was just the stupidest. Peter and
Suresh seemed to be actually leading to something interesting, but fell
apart rather quickly.

Yes! The ambiguity *can* be played right, such as with Lionel Luthor after
he decided use his ruthless skills for good, rather than evil.

She got on my nerves sometimes, but I liked the actress pretty well. The
character didn't really get irritating until the 3rd season, IMO.

Honestly, I'm so sick of mysteriously powerful island people, that he seemed
another such cliché. Good actor, though.

There should be a special "Peter Petrelli Principle" just for Tim Kring.

Heh - yeah, it seemed to become the running theme for each of the
characters. Start out great, then fall to pieces.

I'll give Kring this, though - at least he always *acknowledged* that he was
losing control. Abrams would *never* admit such a thing.

Did he? I'll give him credit for honesty, then. But all *I* can recall
from him is the equivalent of a hearty "FU!" that he gave to fans who
were unhappy with season two at the time. He knew what he was doing,
the fans needed to stop whining and be patient and work at it a bit,
etc. Heh. That little diatribe went over *so* well. Good times.

I remember that from Cuse and Lindelof, not Kring. (though maybe he said
that at some point) Even Matthew Fox got in on it with Lost, saying we fans
just couldn't understand the show. What a fuckwit. He was scarcely seen on
the show for a while, because he pissed a *lot* of fans off with that one.
He said he knew the show had lost direction, and that he was doing all he
could to pull it back together, but things only got steadily worse.

It definitely came from Kring. People were not happy with the Hispanic
Wonder Twins or with the meandering path that season two was taking, and
they were venting everywhere possible online. Kring's feewings were huwt.

Darlton were/are such media whores that I can't begin to remember what
they said and when. :)

LOL Well, in the interview I read from Kring, he was mea-culpa-ing all over
